I’m a writer and editor who covers law, politics, and democracy.

Previously, I was a culture staff writer at GQ, and a senior contributor to The Appeal. My writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The New Republic, Slate, Defector, In These Times, and many more. I am currently the Editor-in-Chief at Balls & Strikes, an outlet for progressive commentary on the legal system, and am a politics columnist at Fast Company.

Before my journalism career, I was a practicing lawyer at large firms in Washington, D.C. and Seattle. I graduated from UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School, and am based in Seattle.
